Telecommunications
Telecommunications can be considered as another cross vertical as it is essential to increase the productivity and allow for the development of scale economies in all the other sectors. The point of giving a proper track to telecommunications infrastructure in Angola is that is on the fact that telecommunications is one of the most advanced and prominent verticals in country. Issues as service´s maximization trough satellite technology, infrastructures´ sharing and technological convergence will lead the agenda. Furthermore and from a much more technical perspective this track will also approach essential topics for investors as the potential for value added services in Angola, 4 generation services as the incumbent strategy and IT security. This conference track finalizes with a presentation on the new law of telecommunications in Angola and on how can it be used as a platform to intensify the infrastructural development of both rural and urban Angola.
Power
Participants will have the opportunity to understand what are the medium term plans to overcome the common infrastructural problems has post war infrastructure destruction, power shortages and alternative immediate solutions for power generation, distribution and commercialization. The power vertical is most probably the vertical where the potential for partnerships is bigger and allow participants to know how to take their part of this potential is the goal of this conference track. Hot topics as master plans, mini-hydric construction plans, renewable energy solutions for peri-urban and rural electrification and information technological solutions for power commercialization will be the highlights of this conference segment. Furthermore whomever wants to have success in Angola within this sector is forbidden to lose the common closing session with delegates form the water and sanitation vertical where the impact of the new environment law on both this verticals will be thoroughly analyzed.
Water and Sanitation
The water and sanitation sector is a clear example of the lack of infrastructures in the country, since only 33% of the population has Access to running water. This sector is currently the one given the most attention, in terms of stimulating investment in infrastructures, which is another one of Government’s priorities. The value of the opportunities and involvement in this sector may be measured by the housing plan that was started in 2008, which anticipates the construction of one million houses until 2012. The government will be responsible for the urbanization and fitting the land where construction will take place, which will result in access to water of an important and large part of the population. Besides the above mentioned project, the business opportunities in this sector are positioned within the Government Programme “Water for All”, which has been running since 2007 and the investment Programme for the Energy and Water sectors, until 2016.
Investment/Finance
In Angola, besides the central bank – Banco Nacional de Angola – there are 18 authorized banks. The Angolan financial sector experienced rapid and ample development in the past few years, during which, it grew at the same exponential rate as the economic growth experienced in the country, at the same time being stimulated by increased competition. The creation of the Angola Development Bank (BDA) in 2007, meant a real development in the sector, since through its “Development Fund” this institution processes fixed and private capital applications, greatly useful for the country’s growth. The government announced the objective to establish a cooperation protocol for the financing of projects with commercial banks, such as the African Development Bank (ADB), Savings and Credit Bank (SCB) and Banco Espírito Santo Angola (BESA). Lastly and in view of the national inability to cater for the high volume of investments necessary for the development of the country’s infrastructure, the doors will open to an extremely desirable market, for foreign banking and financing entities.
Transports & Logistics
Transports & Logistics are the heart of infrastructure development as well as the foundations upon which the sustainable infrastructural development on the other vertical is made possible. This session will stay focused on provide stakeholders with a thoroughly understanding on the national plan for industrial development, on Angola´s internal and regional, urban and rural logistic integration, on Angola´s credit tools availability and on the so needed local and regional intensification of the presence of Banks. iPAD Angola first conference´s day is a must attend meeting to the complete of spectrum of stakeholders within the infrastructure development ecosystem as will deliver its participants with an essential insight on the immense possibilities of institutional or entrepreneurial growth in the country versus the foundations that have been set to make of each those possibilities a sustainable business reality.
Mining
The mining vertical is one of Angola´s economy pillars. Even so, the potential for partnerships within this sector still has a long way to be developed in its full splendor. Apart from diamonds Angola has other mineral resources to explored as is the case for iron, copper and ornamental stones and is precisely within the scope of this alternative potential that participants to the mining track will stay focused. Hot topics as the new paradigm for mining production and exploration within the new mining code, prospection and feasibility studies and environmental management will make clear for stakeholders the revelation this vertical is undergoing in Angola and how is it opening the to an intensive and sustainable public and private collaboration.
